- Curator's comments
- Acquired by the donor in Rajasthan, having been made in Ava, Burma, retailed in Rangoon, brought with the Chettiars to southern Tamil Nadu and thence, recently, to the tourist marts of Rajasthan as a consequence of the breaking up of ancestral homes in Chettinad.
(From Rajasthan to Adelaide, and from Adelaide to Bloomsbury!).
This lid with its paper label, along with the other four in the group, unequivocally indicates the manufacture of monastic alms bowls in Ava.
