- Description
-
Rectangular cotton panel made using the chintz, or resist-dyed, technique, with madder (red) and indigo (blue), and combinations of both. The field is decorated with an Indian tree design made up of, at each end, a double twisting bamboo filled with flowers; there is a central floral medallion. In the branches of the tree are different types of birds, while the rocky hill on which the tree grows is guarded by rampant lions (two at the foot of each tree). This hill is further decorated with deer and rabbits. Around the edges is a register of paired deer and classical swags.
Made on the Coromandel Coast, for export to Sri Lanka.
