Cup, one of a pair (see 1998. 7-23. 80b) made of woven split bamboo, decorated internally with plain brick red lacquer and externally with a floral scroll pattern of the 'Pagan Age' type, in the yun technique. This design is based on those copied by craftsmen from the mural and stucco decoration found in the 12th century temples of Pagan, where the lacquer workshops are also situated. At the lip is a register of repeating circles. On the base is the tortoise mark of the Royal Golden Tortoise Workshop in New Pagan. All of the exterior decoration is engraved on a deep marroon background.
