- Description
-
Miniature betel box made of woven and coiled split bamboo and lacquer, decorated in orange and green using the yun technique. There are two internal trays with evidence of lime. All the interiors have fine coatings of fine red cinnabar lacquer. The base of the trays, and of the drum, have very dense yun decoration, so dense, that it is now difficult to be certain of the design, other than that it is figural (perhaps stylised dancers). On the top of the lid is another very elaborate, and now difficult to unscramble, design (again, perhaps dancing figures), while around the sides of the lid is a cavalcade of figures, on a green ground. Of these figures, one is on horse-back and one on an elephant; others have tall headdresses.
