Betel box decorated in yun (incised) technique with floral designs in green on black and with a peacock in a lobed cartouche and surrounded by an inscription on the lid. There is a crow on the bottom of the base with a long inscription. The execution of the design is crude, but the piece has unusual colour combinations and exceptionally long inscriptions. The lacquerwork itself is lightweight, suggesting the use of horsehair and bamboo for the armature. The red interior has two trays. The peacock was probably added later by the seller whose name and address is inscribed on the bottom of the box. The inscription on the lid indicates that the piece was bought by a woman from Yangon as a donation to a monastery.
