- Description
-
Small betel box with one internal tray, and with much internal evidence of lime. It is made of woven and coiled split bamboo, and lacquer. Internally the lacquer decoration is in the form of plain cinnabar red, while externally it is decorated in red, green, yellow and black lacquer in the yun technique with the nandwin ('king at court') design. This is seen both on the top and sides of the lid and on the sides of the drum. On bottom of the deep base, also in the yun technique, is a displaying peacock, presumably the badge of the workshop where it was made. A less fine peacock is also seen on the base of the internal tray. Inscribed on both the lid and the drum.
