On this jar a number of decorative techniques are combined, including white slip painted in bold brushstrokes and incised and stamped decoration. The jar would have stood on its unglazed flat side.

2016 National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage catalogue entries:
'This cylindrical bottle with opening placed in the middle is a shape that is common to buncheong ware, but not found in Goryeo celadons. The earliest record mentioning this type of vessel is from 1425 (7th year of King Sejong) by Ming envoy Yin Feng. Records state that alcohol was stored in cylindrical bottles that had a spout in the center. Royal protocol documents (uigwe) from the 17th to 19th centuries record sesame oil being stored in these kinds of bottles.
Due to the shape, it is often called a “janggun” (drum) type. Cylindrical bottles were formed vertically on a wheel and turned horizontally to create a hole to which a mouth was attached. This bottle did not have a foot attached. When empty, drum-shaped bottles were stored vertically. This bottle is decorated with incised lines on the body and one end has concentric circles and repeated short wavy lines. White slip was freely brushed over the body and was made to fill the incised decoration at the end. The glaze on the other end was wiped away indicating that it stood vertically on that end in the kiln.'
