The photographs of Sanchi that are included in this album were taken during the monument's restoration project of 1883-84 (overseen by Henry Cole of the ASI) or shortly after the project's completion. Since one of the sculptures in photograph 1994,0520,0.28 was already in the Victoria and Albert Museum by 1886, there exists a very specific window of time with which to date this album.
