- The actors Ichikawa Sadanji I as Ikuta Sumidayu (left), Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Fudo Myoo (centre) and Ichikawa Kodanji as Yuten (right), in the scene 'Miraculous Manifestation of Fudo' (Fudo reigen no ba), from the play 'Toyama-zakura Tempo nikki', performed at the Meiji Theatre, Tokyo from 1 November 1893. Fudo was a role traditionally confined to members of the Ichikawa Danjuro lineage, who were indeed said to be imbued with his holy power.
