- Curator's comments
- Under a high tree, a procession of peasants with fully loaded mules can be seen returning from the mountains. The strong sunlight is reflected on the tree’s lush foliage. Jiang Mi creates these light effects with a finely cut texture of contrasting triangles. Bamboo Raft (1992,0716,0.283) and Return Journey both show exceptionally fine woodblock cutting technique and represent unusual vantage points that are reminiscent of photographic art. They are examples of the monochromatic print style (黑白木刻 heibai muke) practised by artists at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts.
