Hiroshige was a master of misty suggestion in his landscapes, and this slight work shows a scene on the Yodo River near Osaka, with two sailboats passing in front of Yodo Castle, beyond which are clouds and hills in the distance. To the right a village nestles among reeds on the shore. The tower of Yodo Castle, with dolphin finials at each end of the roof, was also featured by Hokusai in the design 'Moon on the Yodo River' from his print series 'Snow, Moon and Flowers' (c. 1832).
