Gouache painting on mica of a fruit seller. The woman wears a blue and white sari which covers her head, over a yellow blouse and balances a large basket on her head. The basket contains fruits and vegetables. In her left hand she holds a scale, on one side of which are some more greens and the other is empty. She wears anklets and bracelets. The ground is indicated by a band of brown paint below her feet. The background is left blank.

- This painting comes from a collection of eighteen mica paintings given to the museum in 1989 (1989,1225,0.1-18). The collection is made up of paintings taken from various different sets of mica paintings showing trades and occupations, natural history subjects and transportation. Such sets were mass produced from the mid 18th century to the mid 19th century mainly for the European market in India.
