- Curator's comments
- Lotuses are a favourite theme of Yang Yanping’s, painted in all the seasons. The mood of this autumn lotus pond is wistful. Yang Yanping was a leading artist in China, but she moved to the United States in 1986 seeking an international platform for her art. Her style is bold, with innovative techniques in application of ink and colour. Colour is soaked through from the back or through paper overlaid on the surface, or sometimes applied with crumpled paper.
