This, like 1987, 0316, 0579, is very probably a later reprint by the artist. The accompanying slip of an unnamed commercial gallery includes a biography of Hashimoto with a most recent date of 1971. Hachijo Island is in the group off the Izu Peninsula still administered by the rather distant Tokyo Metropolitan Government; the islands have a notably exotic and sub-tropical atmosphere. The artist's broad and assertive print technique, thoroughly developed in his series of sixty-one 'Castle' studies (completed 1978), is put to effective use in this warm and affectionate scene.
