This copy was reproduced in black and white in Smith, 1983, no. 66. The original protective sheet covering the print survives and has the title and series as quoted (in Japanese) printed on it. This scene makes an interesting comparison with the bath-house scenes by Kasamatsu Shiro (1946, 0209, 085) and Maekawa Senpan (1987, 0316, 0416). Ishikawa, as a 'Yoga' (Western-style painting) artist, places much more emphasis on the woman and less on the atmosphere of the setting. This was Ishikawa's only series designed specifically for woodblock prints and was published by himself, but it has made his name better known in the West than it would otherwise have been, doubtless because of its subject-matter and racy style. The block cutter Yamagishi Kazue had also worked for Ishikawa's younger colleague Yoshida Hiroshi (q.v.) and Kitano Tsunetomi.
