- Description

Head, perhaps of a deity or Bodhisattva, turned to his left. The hair forms a prominent rounded band, thickest above the right ear, where it is studded with small plain applied discs, perhaps to represent flowers and, in the middle, above it, a crescent lies on its back below a piriform ornament; flanking the crescent seem to be knots or sleeves from which two sets of radiating narrow bands round the head. Part of a broken loop or chignon, with a thick band at its base, survives on top and the grooves around and below it are probably for hair. The worn eyes are long and horizontal with remains of low lids, the eye on the left or inner side somewhat longer; the nose is broad and the lips are now rather indistinct. The chin is full and rounded. Hints of red pigment survive along the bands of the headdress; there is black on the hair area.
