Illustrated book. Vol. 3 from an original series of fifteen volumes. Model book (e-dehon), containing 30 folded sheets (cho) with illustrations in three colours (black sumi, light black sumi, and light vermilion) and text. Representations of people, plants and animals, fish, birds, mythological figures, landscapes, etc.

It is probably true to say that Hokusai's reputation in the West was made by this endlessly inventive series of picture-books, thirteen volumes of which were published during his lifetime.
