In the first decade of the nineteenth century there was a revival of interest in Ogata Korin (16 52-1716) and the 'Rinpa' style that he had pioneered. Hochu and Hoitsu, who led the revival of the movement, prepared books based on Korin's paintings -Hochu's 'Korin gafu' (1979, 0305, 0246), 1802, and Hoitsu's 'Korin hyakuzu', 1815 and 1826 - and Minwa's book seems to have met a popular demand.
