The 'hashira' ('pillar' or outer margin) title is 'Nanpin sensei gaden', Record of the Painting of the Master Nanpin (the Chinese master Shen Nanpin, who resided in Nagasaki in the 1730s and had a pronounced influence on a number of Japanese artists). The chrysanthemum section uses grey blocks to produce luminously atmospheric effects.
