- Curator's comments
- Hillier and Smith 1980
The style and the restrained colour have much in common with the Genji 'à la mode' triptychs designed a few years earlier by Eishi. Very few copies have been recorded.
Literature:
Brown, Louise Norton, 'Block Printing and Book Illustration in Japan', London and New York, 1924, p. 172, obviously copies 'Collection Hayashi. Dessins, Estampes, Livres illustrés du Japon réunis par T. Hayashi', Paris, 1902, no. 1678. The Hayashi copy had only thirty-four prints.
