Circular palette or toilet tray, carved in yellow steatite with a carefully grooved rim, projecting moulded lip and a smooth underside. The interior is divided into two compartments by a double row of rocks. In the upper compartment is a representation of Aphrodite chastising Cupid (Eros). The goddess holds Cupid by the wings and prepares to strike him with her slipper. She wears bracelets and cross-straps (much worn) on her otherwise naked torso. Cupid is shown as a young boy, his hands tied behind his back and his head submissively bent. A goose, Aphrodite's attribute, pecks at his knee. Cupid's attendants stand on either side; one hides behind a pillar and the other, behind the goddess, holds a bird and raises his hand to his cheek in what seems to be gesture of surprise. The figure seated on the pillar is damaged but is clearly Harpokrates.
