This porcelain wine ewer has a gourd-shaped body, S-shaped spout attached with a straight strut with curlicue terminals and a high handle and its overhanging domed cover has a central knob. Using a palette of blue, yellow, green, black and red enamels, the ewer is decorated with lingzhi fungus and morning glory on one side and with persimmons, dragonflies and chrysanthemums on the other. The spout and handle are adorned with cloud scrolls and underneath both are sprays of bamboo while the lid is painted with orchids. The base carries a four character apocryphal Xuande reign mark in a double ring in underglaze blue. It has a Japanese gold lacquer repair.
