The blade is 'shinogi zukuri' with a shallow curve and has a medium 'kissaki'. The unmodified tang has one hole and the file marks are 'kesho' with 'sujigai'. The tang tip is 'kurijiri'. The grain is closely packed 'itame', with a flowing aspect in places. The 'hamon' is 'suguha' with some komidare, with a deep 'nioiguchi' of close-packed 'nie'. The 'boshi' is somewhat pointed 'komaru'.
The sword is a majestic, well-made example of a Kambun-era (1661-73) 'shinto'. Yoshimasa worked in Musashi Province and later moved to Tosa. In addition to the title 'Kozuke no suke' his work is also sometimes inscribed with the title 'Kozuke daijo'.
