Sword-sheath; kozuka. Part of mounting for tanto. Sheath: lacquered black with waves depicted in shell powder makie and with shells depicted in gold leaf and gold takamakie; small protrusion decorated with shells in various coloured metal high-relief sculpture and inlay; made of wood; also metal and braided textile. Kozuka: carved and inlaid with waves and shells; made of brass; signed.

This 'tanto' mounting is lacquered black with waves depicted in shell powder 'makie', and with shells depicted in gold leaf and gold 'takamakie'. The 'fuchi', 'kashira', 'menuki' and 'origane' are decorated with shells in various coloured metal high-relief sculpture and inlay. The 'kozuka' is brass, carved and inlaid with waves and shells, and is signed 'Hiryusha', an art name used by Joseki of Bizen Province (d. 1837). The 'kuidashi tsuba' is of 'shibuichi' sculpted with bellflowers and signed Tanaka Tadashige'. The mounting was assembled in the late Edo period.
