The blade has a standard deep curve. The unmodified tang has one hole and the file marks are 'kesho' and 'sujigai'; the tang tip is 'iriyamagata'. The grain is closely packed, bright 'koitame'. The rather flamboyant 'hamon' consists of 'kawazu no ko choji' and 'fukuro choji', with considerable variation in depth and many 'ashi'; it is predominantly of 'nioi' but there is some 'nie' at the crests of the 'choji'. The 'boshi' is 'midare komi'.
The scabbard is contrived in the form of tree bark with black, brown and gold lacquer. The 'fuchi' and 'kashira' are silver, deeply carved with chrysanthemum blossoms. The gilt 'menuki' are of ivy leaves. The 'kogai' is of gilt copper, with a gilt 'kurikara' on a 'shakudo' insert. The mounting lacks a 'tsuba', 'kozuka' and 'kojiri'.
