Curator's comments
Portal 2000: In the second century BC the bronze production increased, especially in southwest Korea, where many moulds have been discovered, particularly in the Yongsan river valley. Bronze artefacts include daggers, tall spear-heads, Korean-style 'ge'-halberds (with narrower blades than the Chinese type), mirrors with fine-lined geometric designs, axes with distinct shoulders, sword-sheaths decorated with twisted rope-like rings, and horse and tiger-shaped bronze belt hooks such as this piece.
