In this version the feeling of the print is transformed by the use of green on the block for the pine-tree. The season now seems to be May or June. This set of 'Eight Views of Lake Biwa' is based on a series of subjects used in Japanese art since the Muromachi Period (1392-1573) and in turn based on the classic Chinese series 'Eight Views of the Xiaoxiang Rivers'. The signature is 'Painted by Hiroshige'.
