Gouache painting on paper. Viṣṇu in the form of Varāha, the third incarnation of the god. The boar avatar is balancing the world on his tusk; after defeating the demon Hiranyaksha, Varāha retrieved the world from the bottom of the cosmic ocean.

- The architectural backdrop of 1940,0713,0.28, including the section inlaid with coloured marble, suggests a provenance in the Deccan not far removed from Rajasthan. The same can be applied to the other paintings in this series.
