Gouache painting on paper. Durgā Mahishamardini. The goddess Durgā, riding upon her vehicle, the lion (often depicted as a tiger). The pair are shown vanquishing the demon Mahiṣāsura. The ten-armed goddess rides proudly on her lion and tranfixes Mahisha with ther trident as he emerges from the decapitated buffalo carcass. The painting is framed by a red and gold border, which has been adhered to the paper.
