- Curator's comments
- The two pine saplings are finely painted with a large amount of negative space. Good examples of 18th-century Hirado ware are relatively rare in Western collections. The double lines inside the footring suggest that this work was meant for presentation to the imperial court or to the Tokugawa shogunate. (NCR 2015)
