Colour woodblock print, surimono. Congratulations on new names for actor Ichikawa Hakuen and writer Danshuro Enba, with Doys' Day imagery: Legendary Chinese hero Zhong Kui on half-unrolled hanging scroll; doll of Ichikawa Danjuro as Yanone no Goro on scroll; deflated paper carp under scroll. With poems. Inscribed and signed.

This print was issued for Boys' Day (5 May) as shown by the deflated paper carp to the left and the two heroes represented. One is the legendary Chinese hero Shoki, 'the Demon Queller', who is is shown on a half-unrolled hanging scroll. The other is the Japanese Yanone no Goro, as acted by Ichikawa Danjuro, but in the form of a doll. The two celebrities who had received new names (a form of promotion) were the actor Ichikawa Hakuen and the writer Danshuro Emba. The print is signed (on the scroll) 'Painted by Shun'ei'.
