Colour woodblock print, oban diptych. The kabuki actors (right sheet) Kawarasaki Gonjuro I as the sumo wrestler Nuregami Chogoro, seated on a bench holding a tobacco pipe (‘kiseru’) in one hand, and a tobacco case with netsuke in the other; and Iwai Kumesaburo III as the nursemaid (‘komori’) Otora offering him a cup of tea; in the play ‘Sekai mo awase chocho komon’ (世界袷蝶々小紋, also read ‘Sekai awasete chocho komon’) by Kawatake Shinshichi II; performed at the Ichimura-za from the 28th of the 4th month of 1859 (Ansei 6).
