- Curator's comments
- 2016 National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage catalogue entries:
'This celadon jar takes the form of the prunus vases (maebyeong) produced in the twelfth-century. It was originally made with four handles on its shoulder, one of which is missing. The shape of its mouth suggests that it was once covered with a lid, which has also been lost. Its main decorative feature is a lotus and branch design incised across its entire surface, although it also displays an incised ruyi design, i.e. a curved design symbolizing the head of a Buddhist ceremonial scepter, around its mouth, and a banded fret design around its base. The bottom of the foot is slightly convex, and shows traces of sand spurs.'
