This appears to show Shiga Daishichi, villain of the piece, dressed in sinister black kimono, at the moment when he will draw his sword to murder Matsushita Mikinoshin. (Label copy, TTC 1995)

From the play 'Katakiuchi noriai banashi' ('A Medley of Tales of Revenge') performed at the Kiri-za theatre, Edo (Tokyo) in 1794. Komazo was celebrated for his high nose, considered suitable for villainous roles. The signature is 'Painted by Toshusai Sharaku'.
