Description
Colour woodblock print, oban diptych. The kabuki actors Onoe Kikugoro III (right) as Omatsuri Sashichi next to a standing screen (tsuitate), with bare arms showing tattoos, holding a tobacco pipe (kiseru) and tobacco pouch in one hand and a box with a smoking set in the other, and Onoe Eizaburo III as the geisha Koito seated holding a teacup next to a standing screen (tsuitate), in the play ‘Ume sakuya wakakiba Soga’ (梅咲若木場曽我), by Namiki Gohei III; performed at the Kawarasaki-za in the 1st month of 1840 (Tenpo 11).
