Description
Colour woodblock print, oban. The kabuki actor Matsumoto Koshiro V as Ko no Moronao, wearing black formal costume of large crested sleeves (‘daimon’) with the ‘eboshi’ court cap and two swords; in Act I, ‘The Grand Prologue’ (‘Daijo’) (大序), of the play ‘Kanadehon Chushingura’ (仮名手本忠臣蔵), by Takeda Izumo II, Miyoshi Shoraku and Namiki Senryu; performed at the Kawarasaki-za in the 9th month of 1815 (Bunka 12).
