Curator's comments
Smith 1988 One of Eisen's twenty-four prints in the series of seventy-one on stations along the Kisokaido highway between Kyoto and Edo. From the same series as no. 159. Hoeido and Hiroshige had established a gentle landscape style with the Tokaido Road series, but Eisen's contributions have a sharply sensitive quality of their own. The signature 'Painted by Eisen' is missing in later reprints.
