Colour-woodblock print. Scene from Act VI of Chushingura, three hunters weep after returning Ichibei's body to his family, while in the distance two of the Loyal Reainers (standing) inform Hayano Kanpei (a retainer of Enya Hangan) and his beloved Okaru (Ichibei's daughter) that they are returning the money they received from Kanpei, on the grounds that it might have been stolen.

- Curator's comments
- Seeing the dead Ichibei, Kanpei suddenly believes he shot his father-in-law. The humiliation of the returned money drives him to suicide, but then the two loyal retainers examine the body and discover that Ichibei was stabbed, not shot, and that Sadakuro, not Kanpei, killed him. They accept Kanpei's money, and add Kanpei to the list of loyal retainers. Kanpei dies with hoonour.
