Colour woodblock print. Scene from Act V of Chushingura, the robber Sadakuro holding an umbrella and threatening to kill Ichibei, who has sold his daughter Okaru (lady-in-waiting to Kaoyo and beloved of Hayano Kanpei) as a geisha to a brothel, in order to raise funds to support the vendetta of the Loyal Retainers.

- Curator's comments
- In this act, which takes places on a dark and rainy night, Sadakuro kills Ichibei and robs him of the money, but is soon shot and killed by Hayano Kanpei, who had intended to shoot a boar running through the woods. Kanpei finds the bodies of Sadakuro and his father-in-law Ichibei, and takes the money to deliver for the vendetta.
