Colour woodblock print. Scene from Act IV of Chushingura, Enya Hangan's wife Kaoyo (seated right, wearing robe with red tortoiseshell pattern) receiving a gift of cherry blossoms from Oboshi Rikiya (seated on veranda, far left), the son of her husband's retainer Oboshi Yuranosuke; approaching the house are Hara Goemon and Ono Kudayu, two of the shogun's envoys, bringing news that Hangan is condemned to death and his house disolved.
