The figure fills the small sheet in a monumental manner, a tendency, seen in a number of Haranobu's last works. She has the combed-out hair and 'twelve-layered' robes of a Heian period court woman and the cherry-blossom pattern on the outermost layer suggests she may be the poetess Ono no Komachi. This elegant print is in fact a full-colour plagiarism from the black and white book 'Ehon Tokiwagusa' by Nishikawa Sukenobu (1671-1750). The background shows traces of the original blue pigment, which has almost entirely faded. The semi-legendary ninth-century poetess is shown in a many-layered court dress.
