Description
Colour woodblock print, right sheet of an oban diptych. The kabuki actor Iwai Kumesaburo II as Ono no Komachi, standing with a large ‘hiogi’ fan and dressed in the multi-layered court costume ‘juni hitoe’, in the section ‘Narihira’ (業平) from the five-part ‘hengemono’ dance ‘Rokkasen sugata no irodori’, (六歌仙容彩) (originally read ‘Uta awase sugata no irodori’), with lyrics by Matsumoto Koji and music by Kineya Rokuzaemon X and Kiyomoto Saibei; performed at the Nakamura-za from the 3rd month of 1831 (Tenpo 2).
