- Object: The Bodhisattva Maitreya
- Description
-
Seated Maitreya in dhyāna with suspended water pot. The uttarīya forms a large semi-circle over the lap and can be seen over the crook of the right elbow and perhaps away from the neck on the damaged left shoulder. The paridhāna is roughly indicated on the legs and by the usual pointed ends. On the shoulders are vestiges of hair and of the halo. The collar has an indistinct pattern and the bead necklace of two strands a large cylindrical bead in the middle. A string of beads loops over the upper right arm; another under the arm has two large cylindrical boxes. A plain band survives as an armlet on the right arm, and both wrists wear a plain double bracelet. The damaged hands show nothing like a neck or stalk but the indistinct object below them seems to be a suspended water pot.
The rectangular seat has indistinct legs and, between them, the usual drapery.
