- P&D Keeper Sidney Colvin’s report to the Trustees 6 November 1889 has the recommendation that the Trustees acquire a silk painting ‘Chinese landscape painting on a silk roll, having the signature and seal of Chao-meng-fu. The above was obtained by the late Martin Crofton Morrison of H.M’s Diplomatic Service from the sack of the Summer Palace, Peking’. Offered for £31-10-1 by Robert Morrison.
It is unlikely that this work came from the Old Summer Palace, Beijing, as it does not appear to come from the imperial collections. The seals and signature are approcryphal.
