Atlas. The atlas is seated with both legs slanting between knee and foot like the figure on the right of BM 1914.0502.2. A vestige of a wing with pointed coverts survives on the left, while part of the right wing with flight feathers joins the shoulder to the remains of the leg. The torso is broad and powerful, modelled with distinct breasts. The garment around both thighs spreads onto the ground behind and between the legs with ridged and terraced folds. The bearded head, turned a little to its right, looks upwards. The hair is curled and with longer strands drawn to the side and curving to the back of the head; it is wreathed with distinct stalks and vine leaves, the ears are clear and the abundant beard, growing below the ears and leaving the upper chin bare, is curled. The damaged eyes may have been as on preceding pieces, deep-set under low prominent eyebrows.
