Two strips of linen torn from the same textile, densely woven, medium quality, undyed, now varying in colour from dark cream to grey-brown, with oily stains and black smudges. b is cleaner than a. Sides torn, ends cut or ragged. Tied around a, a piece of pinkish cotton tape, modern. At one end of a, a 19th century ink inscription: 'Roller 6 yds long/ slit at both ends/ and with selvage at both sides'.
