Panel, openwork; ivory; depicting Bellerophon slaying the Chimaera; Bellerophon wears a mantle fastened with a circular brooch and is mounted on Pegasus; he thrusts his spear into the lion's mouth of the Chimaera beneath him; to the right are trees and a goat's head; border around three sides is of astragalus moulding, beyond this at top and bottom is a broader band of acanthus; at the top, open-work arcading with horseshoe-shaped arches.
