Description
Pottery pitcher. Clay: orange-brown clay, brown and white grits, mica, semilustrous paint. Shape: Sharply concave neck, plump ovoid body, ring foot; strap handle rising above rim with two vertical grooves, attached to neck by a strut. Decoration: Latticed wolftooth below rim. Neck: in centre, double meander above single zigzag, flanked by quatrefoil metopes with latticed triangles, between columns of latticing and diagonal bars; dotted lozenge chains above and below. Shoulder: two-legged birds in silhouette with diagonal rows of dots; single zigzag Below: zones of dotted lozenge chain, another similar bird frieze, check pattern, dotted lozenge chain, tangential circles with dots in the field, lines, paint on foot. Groups of bars on rim. Handle: bars down the edges; between the grooves, serpent bordered by dots.
