Description
Pottery: red-figured stamnos. Designs red and white on black ground; very coarse, and imperfectly fired. Above, tongue-pattern; under the handles, palmettes and flowers, leaving an almost rectangular space each side for the design. (a) Satyr and Maenad running in opposite directions, turning back to look at each other; the Satyr is bald and beardless, with a white panther-skin knotted round his neck, and white shoes; right hand raised. The Maenad has her hair knotted behind, flesh painted white, bordered himation round lower limbs, and shoes, right hand raised, left holding up drapery. (b) Nike running to left, with hair in a knot, wings spread, and long girt chiton; flesh and lower part of wings painted white.
