The head of the table at the Guildhall dinner on Lord Mayor's day, with the Lord Mayor and his wife seated full face in the centre of the design. A large board falls towards their heads, from which fairy-lamps shower down, shedding their oil. The pair look up, terrified. On the Mayor's right sits the Duke of Clarence in melancholy apprehension. Next him sits Lyndhurst with Scarlett on his right, both in wig and gown. On the Mayor's left Wellington stands, angrily drawing his sword. On the Duke's left are Curtis, raising a spoon, and Wood in court dress, both terrified. The Lord Mayor's footmen stand in ranks behind; one is struck on the nose by a corner of the board. Behind the board are the colossal figures, Gog and Magog (destroyed by enemy action in 1941; cf. BM Satires 14014), grimacing at each other slyly. Nov 1827 Hand-coloured etching
